As many of you probably know by now the Buffalo Bar, our sister venue, is to open it’s doors for the last time on New Year’s Eve 2014 after 14 years of seminal live shows and clubnights.
Over the years we’ve been lucky enough to have hosted shows with the likes of Hot Chip, The National, Sleaford Mods, The maccabees, Bombay bicycle club, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Art Brut, The Subways, Savages, Metronomy, Factory Floor, Suicide, Blurt, The Fat White Family, The Bronx, Bloc Party, The Black Lips, Toy, The Libertines, The Gossip, The Like, Electrelane, Oneida, Mclusky, Future of the Left, Kaito, Pink Grease, Magic Numbers, Martha Wainwright, Rgina Spektor, Friendly Fires, Two Door Cinema Club, The Long Blondes, The Futureheads, 80s Matchbox, Billy Childish, Shrag, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Coachwhips, Frank Sidebottom, The Mystery Jets and there are so many thousands of support bands who have made the place what it is over the years, we’re so sorry we can’t name you all here, but here’s a playlist of some of those bands and more: https://play.spotify.com/user/notoriousrory/playlist/4ZgYuTKbWX94ydKyTI0avd
Amazingly, given the economic climate, our little venue did not go out of business, neither did incur the wrath of the council and police. In fact, the only reason the bar is shutting is thanks to our new landlords, Stonegate Pub Company (they own Slug & Lettuce, Yates’s and Scream bars), who served us an eviction notice which our bar managers found stuck to the front door when they turned up to work a few weeks ago. In turn, the full brunt of the blame should be placed at the feet of Stonegate’s parent company, County Estate Pubs Limited, as it is their legal pedantry which has forced Stonegae into pulling our sub-let. So far it seems like there are no plans for the basement following our removal and it’s likely to become your favourite venue-shaped chair hold for most of 2015.
Since our announcement on Thursday we’ve been overwhelmed with the level of support and good-will that our loyal punters have shown, a petition to save the Buffalo Bar already has well over 3000 signatures and our NYE last stand sold out in well under 24 hours. The outpouring of genuine love has been touching for everyone involved in the Buffalo Bar and it’s been a moving reminder of what a home it’s been for so many over the years.
We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and for posting their great memories on our Buffalo Bar Scrapbook page (some of which are reproduced below). Have a browse through the listings for our remaining days and be sure you keep an eye on our facebook page and group for some very special show announcements with many familiar faces making their final appearances.
Thank you, and goodnight.
