The Marvellous Medical Benefits of Whiskey

Let’s just get one thing off of our chest straight away – if you can make it all the way through January, the worst of all of the months of the year, without having a single drink you are a bloody hero and we here at The Lexington raise our glasses to you. Sincerely we do.

But in a month where it’s suddenly colder than a snow man’s snowballs, you have to go back to work; it’s dark like all of the time, and the Government has basically decided you aren’t allowed to drink more than a thimble of mead a month anyway we just don’t know how you all find the strength to do so. And if the untimely passing of The Thin White Duke didn’t have you reaching for your nearest and dearest bottle of spirits to celebrate the life of one of the World’s greatest ever musicians we are not sure what will!

BUT, what if there were a better way? What if you could still drink booze this month and not feel guilty about it? Well, we are going to let you in on a little secret here (lowers voice): Whiskey can be really good for you! Obviously we are talking in moderation here as skulling a bottle or two of Moonshine a week won’t do you much good but you might be surprised to learn that a little whiskey a week can do wonders for your health.

This is the only ‘Jim’ you’ll see us near this month!

Remember when everyone went nuts for the Atkins diet right? All high protein and low carb’s – well if you fancy a drink but want to watch your carb intake put down your pint of beer and pick up your shot glass! That’s right Whiskey is considerably less calorific than even the lightest of beers and what calories it does contain come from its alcohol content and simple, natural sugars that are easily broken down maintaining liver function and health. And it tastes delicious too!

And everybody knows tea is good for you right? It’s absolutely packed to the brim with anti-oxidants and, as many of you will already know, so is red wine but so is Whiskey. And you know that brown ring you get left over in your mug of tea – those are tannins which, whilst also massively responsible for flavour also have been shown to be instrumental in antimicrobial defence by the immune system. And because Whiskey is aged in wooden barrels it contains huge levels of tannins soaked up from the wood that generate its rich colours and flavours.

With a new year two things are guaranteed – you will be stressed out as fuck being back at work and you and everyone you know will immediately get the worst cold imaginable. Well good news for you we have the perfect remedy for both – you guessed it: Whiskey! Whiskey is antiseptic and soothing for sore throats and can be perfect as a stress buster. There is a reason why nearly every culture in the world has some sort of Hot Toddy for colds and nightcaps for stress relief because pure and simple it works. And Whiskey can also be used to aid digestion perfect for those of you who have really overindulged this holiday season.

On top of this (in moderation of course) Whiskey has been shown to lower the risk of dementia, prevent and aid the onset of diabetes, help lower cholesterol, reduce blood pressure and contribute to a healthy heart. So basically Whiskey is the miracle drug you have been looking for and it’s been staring at you from behind the bar all along! So even if we don’t see you until the 1st of February we look forward to you coming down to responsibly enjoy a healthy Whiskey or two – Good Health!
